Athletics

IU Athletics grants free admission for IU employees and retirees to "Olympic sport" events, such as baseball, softball, soccer, and women's basketball (but not football and men's basketball). All retirees are required to present their up-to-date IU identification cards at the event ticket office. Each retiree then receives two free tickets.

Retired faculty and staff can purchase season tickets for IU Football and Men’s Basketball games at the Faculty/Staff rate.

Campus Bus and Bloomington Transit

Retired staff and faculty are eligible for bus passes for free use of both Campus Buses and Bloomington Transit. Photo bus pass IDs are required. They may be obtained at Campus Card Services on the Mezzanine Level of the Indiana Memorial Union or on the ground level of  Eigenmann Hall. The separate bus pass expires at the same time as the campus ID. See Campus Bus web site for route information.

Library Resources and Privileges

Anyone can use the IU Libraries, and any Indiana resident can check out books. An official Indiana University retireehttp://www.hr.iu.edu/benefits/retirestatus.html) has additional privileges.

Online Databases, Electronic Journals, and Electronic Books

IU Libraries on every campus subscribe to a variety of journal indexes, full-text resources, and electronic books and journals. Retirees have access to the resources a campus library provides. An IU network ID (the one used to access University resources such as OneStart and IU email account) still works. Retirees may use it to log in to library-owned computers, to connect to these resources from off-campus through the library’s web site or through IUCAT, and to access many library services. Some professional schools provide access to special databases for faculty who have retired from the professional school; contact a campus library for details.

A  log-in using a network ID and passphrase will be required when connecting from off-campus. The easiest way to access online subscription resources is to use the library web site.  To access electronic library subscription resources through the library catalog, use IUCAT rather than Classic IUCAT because the new IUCAT makes it easier to log in to use library resources.

Special information for IPFW retirees—Retirees affiliated with the IPFW campus must obtain a free special network account to access these resources from the IPFW Information Technology Services (ITS) office to maintain access to IPFW library resources and services.

Check Out and Return Books and Other Materials

Library Accounts

Faculty and Professional Staff -- Faculty members and professional staff may keep their library accounts and use their IU ID cards to check out books.

Library accounts expire annually and must be renewed because the University does not update retiree information.  A library patron who receives a notice that his/her library account has expired should check with the circulation desk at a campus library to confirm contact information (email address, mailing address, and phone number) and renew the account.

A retiree may renew checked out materials through IUCAT or in person at a campus library.  Most libraries (with the exception of the Kokomo campus library), also renew materials via phone or by mail.

All notifications are sent to the user’s Indiana University email address.  Faculty and staff retirees who check out library materials must check this address regularly.

Clerical and Service-Maintenance Staff -- Retired clerical and service-maintenance staff members may keep their original IU ID cards and barcode numbers. On most campuses, library accounts transition to Indiana resident library accounts with a 30-day loan period. When checking out library materials, be sure to note the due date.

Library accounts expire annually and must be renewed because the University does not update retiree information. Expiration notices are sent to the user of record. A card holder who receives a notice that a library account has expired should check with the circulation desk at a campus library to confirm contact information (email address, mailing address, and phone number) and renew the account.

Retirees may continue to renew checked out materials through IUCAT or in person at a campus  library. Most libraries (with the exception of the Kokomo campus library), also renew materials via phone or by mail. Some campuses have special web forms for renewal by Indiana residents.

They are:

Bloomington -- http://www.libraries.iub.edu/index.php?pageId=3500

IUPUI University Library -- http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/renew/renewform

All notifications are sent to the user’s Indiana University email address.  Faculty and staff retirees who check out library materials must check this address regularly.

ALF Requests

Retired faculty and staff may continue to request delivery of materials from storage at the Bloomington ALF (Auxiliary Library Facility) through IUCAT.

Request Delivery Services through IUCAT

Retired faculty and staff may use the Request Delivery Service through IUCAT to request materials from libraries at other IU campuses.

Retirees should contact a campus library with any questions about library resources or privileges. A Knowledge Base article defines many library privileges. It will be updated with library information in the next few weeks (as of 3/14/14).

Life Insurance Coverage

The university provides a Retiree Life Insurance benefit to terminated employees with IU Retiree status. There is no dependent coverage provided as part of the Retiree Life Insurance benefit.

The amount of Retiree Basic Life Insurance provided by the university is $6,000 for those terminating with IU Retiree status January 1, 2003, or after.

For those retiring prior to January 1, 2003, the Amount of Basic Life Insurance will be determined by your Annual Wage, just prior to your retirement. For questions regarding your retiree life insurance amount, contact UHRS at (812) 856–4459.

"Years of IU Service" means the years of full-time appointed service at Indiana University, excluding periods of leave without pay. However, sabbatical leaves and leaves for purposes of research of distinction are included.

Technology Accounts and Services

Use of Indiana University technology resources (e.g., computers, networks, phones) is restricted to purposes related to the University's mission of education, research, and public service. Access to IU computing resources is a privilege granted to all admitted IU students and current or retired university faculty and staff, in support of their studies, instruction, duties as employees, official business with the University, and other University-sanctioned activities.

At Indiana University, retired faculty and staff can have email accounts. To maintain or receive an email account, a person must be retired according to IU's criteria. For a list of the age and service requirements necessary to qualify as an official retiree, see Retiree Status and Benefits.

To verify status, contact the respective campus Human Resources (HR) or Academic Affairs office.

Retired faculty or staff member who had an email account before your retirement do not have to do anything to keep an account active. Those who want to request a first email account after retirement can create an account using the Account Management Service (AMS); for more information, see the UITS Knowledge Base page on creating accounts.

IUWare

At Indiana University, the following are eligible to obtain university-distributed software from IUware:
